About

My name is Nick Smith and I will the one taking you on this musical journey back to our youth.  I am a freshman business student at the University of South Carolina.  This is my first ever blog so this will be an adventure that we can take together.  I was born in 1996 right in the heart of the millennial time frame.  Personally I think that the music of our generation is the best music but obviously I am a little biased.  The millennial generation are those of us born any time between the 1980’s to the early 2000’s.  For us millennials this is the blog for the music of our youth, the music that we grew up on.  We’ll talk about the songs that we’ll tell our kids and grandkids about when we’re old and gray.
For avid music listeners, Pandora or Spotify is a great way to discover new songs that are similar to your own music tastes.  Maybe you are up at 4 am, halfway through an all nighter, working on homework, trying to do anything to stay awake; maybe you just got handed the aux cord in your friend’s car and you don’t know what to bump; maybe you are just chilling at home looking for some easy listening to pass the time.  No matter what the situation is, you can always turn to Pandora and just let the music take over.
But maybe you don’t want to discover new songs so much, but would rather reminisce on some classic throwbacks.  Personally I am the latter and I constantly listen to “90’s, 2000’s and Today’s Hits” on Pandora.  This station has its roots in the throwback alternative music from the 90’s.  You will hear songs from the Goo Goo Dolls, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Matchbox Twenty, Staind, Blink 182, etc.  I know it also says “Today’s Hits” in the title of the station but really the only song from today that I have heard was an Ed Sheeran Song.  Listening to 90’s, 2000’s, and Today’s Hits can put you in your feels with some hard core nostalgia or it can get you hyped up with a song that has a little more of a rock vibe.  In this blog I will be talking about the songs, artists, and albums that come up on this, the GOAT, pandora station.
These throwback songs from the 90’s and 2000’s have had a huge impact on my personal music tastes.  While I don’t consider myself to be the next John Mayer, I do dabble with guitar and a ton of my favorite songs to strum are songs from the artists that come up on this station.  I think that is actually one of the reasons that I really love this station; a ton of the songs that are played on it have a really strong acoustic presence which is something that I really love but we will talk more about that in the upcoming reviews.
This music holds a special place near and dear to my heart.  It is a way for me to hold on to the younger years when everything was easier now that I am growing up and moving away from home.  That is a feeling that I think everyone can relate to because no matter how hard try, you can’t hold on to the past but you can carry a piece of it with you as you move on through life.  For those of you who are true millennials you will surely remember the Now That’s What I Call Music CDs.  When I was little I lived in Charlotte and I can remember my mom driving me around and I would be playing those CDs.  Now 8 came out in 2001 when I was 5 years old and I remember thinking that it was a day that would go down in history because it was the newest and best music.  In July 2015 they just released Now 91… just let that sink in.  Today’s kids will never appreciate Now That’s What I Call Music like we did but hey that doesn’t mean we can’t reminisce on the classics and talk about ‘em on this blog now.
